When deciding to travel out of state or abroad for plastic surgery or any major surgery, one should consider critical elements like the side effects of traveling. Traveling after significant surgery can be dangerous for your health and the positive outcome of the surgery.
Many people travel too soon after their surgery which is hazardous.
Air travels or even long car rides can potentially trigger DVT ( deep vein thrombosis), also known as a blood clot in your legs. The clot can break off and travel to the lungs and generate a pulmonary embolism (PE), which could lead to death. This risk is prevalent up to day 14 post surgery. Therefore, it is important to consider not traveling until day 15 to ensure full recovery and not gamble with your health.
When flying after a breast implant operation, it is not recommended to take a plane for at least 15 days after the procedure. The breast implant itself won’t break but the cabin air pressure can open your wounds, exposing your implant, as It is typical for periprosthetic fluids or edema to grow in the first postoperative weeks.
You are ready to travel within two weeks following the date of the procedure, but there are still certain things you need to avoid doing when flying. Do not lift luggage weighing more than 5 to 10 pounds as it might reopen your scars and cause bleeding
Also, refrain from placing heavy bags or objects in the overhead compartment as if one of these accidentally falls on your implants you could suffer from a serious injury.
